  • Bird Watching

    There are over 900 species of birds in southern Africa, many of which can be seen to great advantage in the Outeniqua area, due to the biodiversity of mountain terrain, indigenous forest, lakes and beaches. If you're particularly interested in birds, you should not miss the Wilderness Lakes wetlands which comprise a series of interconnected coastal lakes, parallel to the coastline, that opens periodically to the sea. Apart from water birds about 170 species of birds have been recorded for the floodplain and the surrounding area.

  • Creating a new heart for George

    Outeniqua Farmers’ Market is now the land of honey – and berries and ice cream and bread, fish, cheese, crafts, arts and entertainment. A high quality venue offering high quality products to local and international visitors all year round

  • George Old Car Show

    The George old car show is an annual event held in February and promotes veteran and vintage car activities. The event is a not to be missed outing for both young and older families who attend to compete-compare or just to reminisce the “remember when” era of transportation and machinery. Every show draws a greater attendance than the preceding one and visitors /vehicles and owners arrive from across the continent to attend what is becoming a significant Outeniqua Event.

  • Strawberry Festival

    The Outeniqua Hop Strawberry Festival at Red Berry Farm runs during the same weekend, from 24-25 September, you’re invited to enjoy the fresh air while you pick strawberries, sample local cheese and wine, and enjoy the live entertainment on offer. There is lots for the family to do, ride the miniature strawberry train, partake in the various activity’s or just relax and eat wholesome farm fare.

  • Spear fishing-Diving

    The Outeniqua coastal shelf of the Indian Ocean provides a spearfishing paradise with the current carrying game and pelagic fish past our shores in ever different species and sizes. There are a number of clubs in the area that one can dive with using either Photographic or on spear catches.

  • Hiking

    The Outeniqua Mountains, which divide the upper arid Karoo from the Coastal plateau provide formal and informal trails that can start in Herold & Waarboomskraaal the Wine and Hops farming area’s or provide a challenging climb from the outskirts of George up gorges and historic wagon trails. The area falls within a region of vegetation known as the Cape Wildflower Floral Kingdom with fynbos and rare afromontane forest. Many travellers visit the area to view the wildflowers that are in bloom from autumn (March) to spring (November).

  • Historic Railways and Museum

    The Outeniqua Transport Museum, houses a large collection of steam locomotives and carriages dating back to the bygone years and the storage of the Choo-Choo pending the line to Wilderness reinstatement. The Museum offers hours of exploration -intrigue and experience for both dedicated rail enthusiast and families with children.

  • Golf

    Outeniqua offers a cluster of the finest championship South African courses such as George Club founded in 1886 / Fancourt / Oubaai / Kingswood  all minutes from central George at the foot of the imposing Outeniqua Mountains in natural surroundings of the most stunning beauty. These challenging courses draw golfers –national and international to just experience or compete in major events
