Leilas Arms Restaurant

Leila embraces, in her Arms, the beauty and abundance of country living. The views are magnificent, the ambiance is relaxed and friendly, and the food is fresh, delicious and home cooked.  She is settled, on a small holding, at the foot of the Outeniqua on the outskirts of the small city of George. There is nothing pretentious about this little eatery, you feel entirely at home.  The cottage is nearly 200 years old and is a fine example of the sod houses of this rich clay, soil region.  You help yourself to a drink from the fridge , a glass from the cabinet, and fresh rain water from the rain tank.

Summer dining is on the covered stoep with unprecedented views of the mountain. There is a rough and tumble garden where children are welcome to play and climb the trees. Veggies, salads and herbs are picked while your lunch is made.  Nontosi and I, Gabrielle, prepare your lunch, sourced  from the garden and from local surrounding farms. We prepare each plate, of the MOST delicious food, with love.

Our menu is small but there is something for everybody;  lamb and oxtail cooked slowly in iron pots on the wood stove, chicken, vegetation and vegan dishes,  as well as lots of veggies, salads and crispy potatoes too. On cold, rainy days we eat inside, next to the wood stove and the ambiance changes from light and summery to warm and cosy.

We are open from Tuesday to Sunday, for lunches.  Sunday is family day and children are invited. We open for breakfast and supper on request, preferably 24 hour notice, on all other days (except Monday). The little establishment is also available for private functions. We seat 50 people on any day and can extend that with ease to 100 for special occasions.

Leila is beautifully located 5km from George airport, 10 km from Herolds Bay beach, 7km from George city center and just 1km from the fancy Fancourt Hotel.
